Day 1 : Arrival in Lima
According to your homebound flight time, you will have the opportunity to make some more discoveries to admire for the last time the amazing heritage of the Inca Empire. Thus, before to take you to the airport, your private Welcome to Lima, the colorful capital of Peru. Your private guide will meet you at the international airport of Lima upon your arrival and will take you to your hotel. Even if Peru is famous for the amazing heritage of the Incas, the legacy left by the pre-Incan civilizations is of great importance as well. The legacy left by Moche civilization from II to XVIII century will prove it. Before to discover the remains of the different archeological sites in the north of Peru, your guide will take you to Larco museum, which is one of the most important museums of Lima. Day 2 : Flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado
Today you will take the flight to reach Puerto Maldonado. What is it famous for? It’s the start point to discover the amazing Peruvian Amazon. Before to explore the heritage of Moche civilization you will have some days of relaxation in the lush tropical forests of the Amazon by discovering its unusual wildlife. Upon your arrival to Puerto Maldonado, another driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the boat which will take you to your hotel, which is in perfect harmony with the surrounding tropical forest. Once settled in your hotel, you will start exploring the Amazon rainforest. Your guide will give you all the necessary explanations. Day 3 : Amazon rainforest
Today you will discover the wildlife of the amazing Lake Sandoval by canoe. This serene lake is inhabited by thousands of species of birds, the endangered river wolf, howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, turtles and black alligators. After the canoe tour, you will reach your hotel for lunch and then, you will cruise for about 20 minutes by boat to reach the exciting Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a safe and sophisticated system of suspended bridges with two panoramic observation towers. Live an unforgettable experience observing the Amazon forest from the treetops. You will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys and the three-toed sloth. Day 4 : Flight from Puerto Maldonado to Lima
Today, you will say goodbye to the Amazon and you will take the boat to reach Puerto Maldonado Airport for your departure flight to Lima. Enjoy how the Amazon rainforest is waking up. Along the way to the airport you will make also a short stop at Mariposario of Tambopata. Peru has the largest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species. Many of these can be seen in the Butterfly Farm, which showcases the diversity, beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects. Once you are in Lima, your private guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel. Later he will make you discover the great pyramid of Huaca Pucllana dating back to IX-X centuries from the ancient Wari civilization. During the archaeological excavations, female body with three children were found there which suggested this could be a place of sacrifice. Well preserved pre-Columbian mummies have also been found there. This will a nice opportunity to discover also the Wari civilization, their rituals and traditions and compare them with Moche culture. Day 5 : Flight from Lima to Trujillo
Due to the unique architectural monuments dating back to Moche and Chimu civilizations period, Trujillo is today one of travelers' favorite destinations. The proximity to the ancient city of Chan Chan from Chimu civilization where archaeological excavations are carried out today makes Trujillo a main point of transit for several travelers. Today your will take the flight with your guide to reach Trujillo, the cultural capital of Peru. Upon your arrival your guide will take you to your hotel. After some rest, he will take you to the Huaca del Sol y de la Luna dating back to the time of the Moche civilization, the most famous architectural remains from this ancient civilization. These names were assigned to the temples by the conquistadors, however no written record was kept as to their original names in order to better understand for what religious rituals they were used exactly. What did the Moche believe in and how was organized their social life? Your guide will help you to better understand the lifestyle of that time. Overnight in Trujillo.

Day 6 : Trujillo sightseeing
In parallel to Moche civilization heritage, you will explore also some of the Chimu civilization (X-XV centuries) archeological vestiges. What were the characteristics of this civilization and which rituals they were practicing? The visit of the The Dragon Temple (also known as Huaco del Arco Iris) will be a nice opportunity to learn about it. It is a pyramid decorated with beautiful reliefs representing anthropomorphic and geometric figures, dating back to the time of pre-Columbian civilization Chimu. There are sculptures of dragons where the name comes from and according to other hypotheses, the temple was used during the rituals to honor the rainbow (from where its other name originated). Later, you will discover the archaeological site of Chan Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimu civilization, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here you will discover mostly the lifestyle of the Chimus by visiting the Nik An Palace, with its ceremonial courtyards and walls decorated with bas-reliefs. Overnight in Trujillo.

Day 7 : From Trujillo to Chiclayo (4h driving)
The next step of your trip will be Chiclayo, well known especially for its museums and pre-Inca archaeological sites (dating back to the time of the Moche and Sican civilizations). On the way, you will make a detour to discover another witness of Moche civilization, the archaeological complex of El Brujo. Who were the Moches and what was their main occupation? The visit of El Brujo will help you to get the answers. The site consists of 3 main buildings: Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cao Viejo and Huaca El Brujo. The Huaca Cao Viejo is the best preserved and you can admire its beautiful bas-reliefs, representing prisoners and warriors with their weapons. The tomb of the Lady of Cao, considered as an almost divine figure, was found in Huaca Cao Viejo. It was a very important discovery because the people used to think that only the men could hold high positions in ancient Peru. You will also visit the Cao Museum. Here you can see the mummified remains of Lady of Cao and her impressive tattoos with religious and ritual symbolism so as her ornaments, jewelry and costumes. Later you will arrive to Chiclayo. Day 8 : Chiclayo sightseeing
Today you can visit Chiclayo and its surroundings with its various archaeological sites from the pre-Inca era. First of all it would be a great opportunity to learn about the process of mummification and the beliefs during the era of Moche civilization. Today your guide will take you to the Huaca Rajada funeral complex (also known as Sipan). This place includes two adobe pyramids and the funeral chamber of the Lord of Sipan where he was found with sacrificed servants, warriors, llamas, offerings and ceramics. The museum of Sipan will conclude your visit with all its important artifacts discovered during the archeological excavations. Maybe you would like to see also the purgatory dating back to Sican civilization (IX to XIV centuries)? Then, you will need to discover the valley of the Tucume pyramids. This spectacular archaeological complex consists of 26 adobe pyramids. In the center, there is the Holy Mountain, known as Cerro La Raya. There is a museum that you can visit for a better understanding of the site. Tucume and the Raya Mountain are of great importance for the local shaman healers. You would have the opportunity to feel the unique atmosphere of this site by visiting it with your private guide. Later, once you return to Chiclayo, you will have free time at your leisure. Day 9 : From Chiclayo to Chachapoyas (8h driving)
Today you will take the long road to reach Chachapoyas, the capital of Amazonas department. It's another destination off the beaten track, which name is translated as ''warriors of the clouds''. Chachapoyas was another ancient civilization conquered later by the Incas. Kuelap is one of the most important architectural remains of the Chachapoyas culture that you will discover along the way. This archaeological site is located on a natural rock elevation at 3000 meters. Here you will have the opportunity to discover the Great Temple, known for rituals that were practiced there. Your guide will explain about the funerary customs of Chachapoyas as well as about the practice of embalming the dead. The walls of the citadel are decorated with numerous high-relief sculptures representing anthropomorphic, zoomorphic and geometric figures. Later, you will arrive to Chachapoyas. Day 10 : Chachapoyas sightseeing
Today, you will have a trekking day, it will give you the possibility to make also some discoveries of the natural wonders of Chachapoyas and observe some mammals endemic to Peru. We will organize an excursion to explore the impressive Gocta Falls, one of the highlights to visit in Chachapoyas. Your guide will drive you to the town of Cocachimba from where you will begin your trekking to reach the falls (around 2 hours). It is a double fall: one is 231 meters high and the second 540 meters high, which makes a total fall of 771 meters. The Gocta fall is one of the highest in the world and the third one in Peru. In this region, there are around 110 species of birds such as the rooster. As for mammals, there are more than 20 species such as the spectacle bear, the yellow-tailed monkey and the night monkey, both primates endemic to Peru. After the visit, we will return to Cocachimba where you can have lunch and later you will take the road back to Chachapoyas where you will have free time. Day 11 : Chachapoyas and departure
This morning, after your breakfast at your hotel, your guide-driver will drive you to Chachapoyas airport from where you will take your flight to Lima from where you will catch your return flight (Please note that this flight is only operated 4 times per week. In case there are no flights on your dates, your guide will take you to Jaen from where you will take your flight).
